Description

Abstract

This IDC study focuses on the manufacturing sector in Australia, providing a map of short- and long-term opportunities and highlighting purchasing patterns for products and services by market. This study is part of a series of reports focusing on specific vertical markets. Actual ICT market sizing and ICT market share are provided for 2008, along with forecasts for 2009–2013, including compound annual growth rates (CAGRs). Overall ICT spending in the Australian manufacturing sector will increase from A$4,562.7 million in 2008 to A$5,612.5 million in 2013, achieving a CAGR of 4.2% for the forecast period.

"Being a successful manufacturer is not an easy task today. Although solid business strategies and clear targets are in place, manufacturers must be ready to make rapid corrections to their tactics, following fast-changing demand, shorter product life cycles, and opportunities to exploit new or emerging markets; and ICT can assist. ICT vendors that can address these issues are likely to be successful in selling to the manufacturing sector," says Melissa Martin, senior market analyst, IT Spending and Vertical Markets, IDC Australia.
