Mobile Payment Case Studies: UMPay and China's Mobile Payment Market

Beijing Union Mobile Pay (UMPay) is the largest mobile payment service provider in China, the largest single mobile phone market in the world. Since established in 2003, UMPay has been making steady progresses in rolling out various mobile payment services covering and growing its user base. Mercator examines UMPay' s case especially in the aspect of how it has handled challenges from regulation, consumer behaviors, signing up merchants, and technology infrastructure, among others.
