Abstract

This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J9250103, analyzes the Japan server market in 2H08 (July to December) and presents a forecast for the 2008–2013 market.

"The impact of the economic downturn was reflected in the Japan server market in 2H08. All major products posted revenue decline from the previous year and double-digit negative growth since 2003. In light of this, we have included the impact from the unprecedented "once-in-a-century" economic downturn in the forecast and revised downward the forecast for 2009 and subsequent years. We forecast that 2009, where impact from the economic downturn will be felt strongest, will most likely experience the greatest negative growth since 2000," says Hiroyuki Tsuzuki, research manager, Server, IDC Japan.
