Abstract

This IDC study presents IDC' s I/O virtualization taxonomy. It provides definitions for the major types of technologies as well as guidance for this emerging market.

According to Lucinda Borovick, research vice president of IDC' s Datacenter Networks program, "In order to capture the value proposition of a new converged architecture, it is necessary to research and decide on the most appropriate I/O strategy. I/O virtualization in its multiple iterations is at the core of customers' ability to migrate to new cloud technologies in both public and private datacenters."
