Description

Abstract

This IDC study discusses the changes that IDC is making to several enterprise system management software functional market definitions. IDC is adding a functional market category for workload scheduling and automation to the IDC Software Taxonomy. This market combines traditional calendar-based job scheduling products with automated workload management, automated server provisioning, and run-book automation technologies.

"More and more IT organizations are implementing workload automation to streamline operations and control costs in the face of increasingly complex virtualized datacenters and emerging cloud computing environments," explains Mary Johnston Turner, research director, Enterprise System Management Software at IDC. "The taxonomy change will allow us to better track the replacement of traditional job scheduling tools with more dynamic workload automation solutions and will provide IDC with a better focal point for ongoing IT management automation coverage."
