• As the U.S. economy began to gather steam, the market for pleasure boats rebounded quickly. U.S. manufacturers? sales rose by an average of more than 10% per year in 2004 and 2005, topping the $7 billion mark for the first time. Although the market will continue to improve over the next two years, sales should advance at a more moderate pace. The value of U.S. sailboat exports jumped by 51.3% in 2005, boosted by sharp increases in shipments to Italy, the Netherlands, and Mexico.

Imports of inboard motorboats increased by 7.3% to total $728.6 million that year, or just over half of the total value of U.S. imports in 2005.
